NDIS Plan Management Explained
What a plan manager does, how plan management is funded, and how it compares with self-managed and NDIA-managed funding. Mayah Care Australia does not provide plan management. We work alongside the plan manager you choose.
What is NDIS Plan Management?
NDIS Plan Management is a Capacity Building support that gives you a plan manager to handle the financial administration of your NDIS plan. Instead of having the NDIA manage your payments directly (Agency Managed), or managing everything yourself (Self Managed), plan management gives you the best of both worlds — the freedom and choice of self-management, with the administration handled for you.
With a plan manager, you can use both NDIS registered and unregistered providers — significantly expanding your choice of supports. Your plan manager receives invoices from your providers, checks them, and processes payment from your plan, while tracking your spending and providing regular statements.
Importantly, plan management is funded separately in your NDIS plan — it does not come out of your other support budgets. This means choosing plan management costs you nothing from your existing supports funding.
Mayah Care Australia does not provide plan management. If you choose to be plan-managed, you select your own plan manager. We work alongside them. Our invoices go to your plan manager for payment, and we're happy to communicate with them about your supports.
What a Plan Manager Does
A plan manager typically helps you with:
Invoice Processing
Your plan manager receives invoices from your providers, checks them against your plan and the NDIS Pricing Arrangements, and pays them from your plan funds.
Budget Tracking
Your plan manager tracks spending against each support budget and can let you know when a budget is running low, so you can plan ahead.
Clear Financial Statements
Your plan manager provides regular statements showing how your NDIS funds have been spent.
Provider Flexibility
With plan management you can use both registered and unregistered NDIS providers — giving you much greater choice and flexibility in who delivers your supports.
Plan-managed, self-managed or NDIA-managed?
NDIA-managed (agency-managed): the NDIA pays your providers directly. You can only use NDIS-registered providers.
Plan-managed: a plan manager you choose pays your providers and tracks your budget. You can use registered and unregistered providers.
Self-managed: you pay providers and claim from your plan yourself, with the most choice and the most administration.

Choosing a plan manager
You choose your own plan manager. You can ask about how quickly they pay invoices, how they report on your budget, and how to contact them. You can change plan manager if it isn't working for you.
