About This Service

What is Positive Behaviour Support?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred, evidence-based approach that seeks to understand the reasons behind challenging behaviour and address them — rather than simply reacting to the behaviour itself. The goal is to improve quality of life and build the skills and environments that make challenging behaviour unnecessary.

Under the NDIS, behaviour support must be delivered by a registered Specialist Behaviour Support provider. Mayah Care's practitioners are registered, experienced, and committed to a rights-based approach — meaning we always treat restrictive practices as a last resort and work actively toward eliminating them.

Our behaviour support practitioners conduct thorough functional behaviour assessments, develop Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), train support workers and families, and review progress regularly to ensure the plan is working and evolving with your needs.

Specialist Behaviour Support Perth WA — Mayah Care Australia
How We Deliver It

The Mayah Care Approach

Person-centred, rights-based support delivered with genuine compassion — here's exactly how we do it.

Functional Behaviour Assessment

We conduct thorough assessments to understand the function and triggers of behaviour — gathering information from you, your family, and your support team to build a complete picture.

Behaviour Support Plans

We develop clear, practical Behaviour Support Plans with proactive strategies, reactive strategies, and measurable goals — written in plain language that everyone can use.

Training & Implementation

We train support workers, families, and carers to implement the plan consistently — because a BSP only works when everyone around the participant uses it the same way.

Restrictive Practice Reduction

We actively work to reduce and eliminate regulated restrictive practices from your support — always rights-based, always with your full involvement and consent.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this service — and how to get started with Mayah Care.

What is a Behaviour Support Practitioner and do I need one?
A Behaviour Support Practitioner is an NDIS-registered specialist who assesses behaviour and develops Behaviour Support Plans. If your NDIS plan includes Specialist Behaviour Support in your Capacity Building budget, or if you or someone you support uses any regulated restrictive practices, you are required to have a registered practitioner involved. Even without restrictive practices, a BSP can significantly improve quality of life.
What are regulated restrictive practices under the NDIS?
Regulated restrictive practices are interventions that restrict the rights or freedom of movement of an NDIS participant. The five types are: chemical restraint, mechanical restraint, physical restraint, seclusion, and environmental restraint. Under the NDIS, these must be authorised, reported, and actively reduced with the goal of eventual elimination.
How long does it take to develop a Behaviour Support Plan?
An interim BSP can typically be developed within 1-2 weeks of initial assessment to address immediate safety needs. A comprehensive BSP — including full functional behaviour assessment and consultation — is usually completed within 4-8 weeks. Timelines depend on complexity and the authorisation process in WA.
Can behaviour support help with my child?
Absolutely. Early intervention behaviour support is one of the most impactful investments in a child's development. Our practitioners work with children, their families, and their school or therapy teams to create consistent, strengths-based strategies that build communication and reduce challenging behaviour.
