Step 1 — Know What Your Plan Funds
Before you start looking for providers, understand what your NDIS plan actually funds. Your plan outlines support budgets across Core Supports, Capacity Building, and Capital Supports. Each category funds different types of services. If you are unsure, speak to your Support Coordinator or contact the NDIS on 1800 800 110.
Step 2 — Decide What Type of Provider You Need
Consider: local vs national, registered vs unregistered, specialist vs generalist, and cultural fit. A local provider may offer more flexibility and personal service. If you are NDIA-managed, you must use registered providers.

When you contact a provider ask: Are you registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission? Do you have experience with my specific disability? How quickly can you start? What happens if my regular support worker is unavailable? How do you handle complaints?
Step 5 — Check Reviews and References
Search the provider's name on Google and read their reviews. A provider who is proud of their work will have no hesitation sharing references.
