About This Service

What is NDIS Employment Support?

NDIS Employment Support (Assistance with Employment) helps participants who want to find work, maintain employment, or advance in their career — with coaching and practical support tailored to the specific barriers their disability creates in the workplace.

This is not Disability Employment Services (DES), which is a separate Australian Government program. NDIS employment support is funded through your Capacity Building budget and is more personalised — focused on your specific workplace, your specific role, and the specific support strategies that work for you.

Mayah Care's employment support workers go into the workplace with you, support you to develop the skills your role requires, help you communicate with your employer, and work alongside you until you are confident and established. We also support job search, resume writing, interview preparation, and workplace modifications where needed.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this service — and how to get started with Mayah Care.

What is the difference between NDIS employment support and Disability Employment Services (DES)?
Disability Employment Services (DES) is a free Australian Government program focused on helping people with disability find jobs. NDIS employment support is separately funded in your NDIS Capacity Building budget and is more personalised — it focuses on your specific job, your specific workplace, and the specific support strategies that work for you once employed. Many participants use both DES and NDIS employment support together.
Can Mayah Care help me find a job?
Yes — job search support is part of what we offer. We can help you identify suitable job types, prepare your resume, practise interview skills, and identify employers known to be inclusive and disability-friendly. We also work with your Support Coordinator and DES provider to ensure everyone is aligned on your employment goals.
What does on-the-job support look like?
On-the-job support involves a Mayah Care worker attending your workplace with you during your shifts — especially in the early days of a new role. They help you learn tasks, support communication with colleagues, help you manage unexpected changes in routine, and fade their support as you become more independent in the role. The goal is always for you to need less support over time.
My employer does not know about my disability — can I still get support?
Disclosure is always your choice. You are not required to disclose your disability to your employer to access NDIS employment support. Our workers can be introduced to your workplace in a way that you are comfortable with. That said, some workplace adjustments are easier to implement with employer awareness — we can help you think through the options.
